Do you remember your first field trip? I do! It was to Mercy Hospital and we got to check out the cool new Lifelight helicopter. I was in 1st grade and I just remember how cool it was to be able to sit in the pilots seat and check out all the interesting buttons and instruments! The field trip was not only fun and enjoyable, but it was educational at the same time! We learned all about the men and women that help us when we are hurt. We learned about a profession-- which 25 years later is still in existence and important to us all! Field trips help engage students to learning that extends beyond the classroom and that can open childrens eyes to the world around them.
Did you know field trips, along with many other important entities to school systems are being jeopardized? Whatever school boards deem as not a necessity, gets cut. According to a 2009 report from The American Association of School Administrators, it’s estimated that over the course of the current school year, the number of school districts eliminating field trips will increase by 56 percent. That’s more than 30,000 schools nationwide! Not only does this hurt the students real life experience, but think about those monumental field trips, like 6th grade camp or trips to Washington DC-- those are now eliminated. It's sad.
But now with the help of Lunchables Lunch Combinations-- you know those cracker and lunch meat combos we all know and love-- kids can nominate their classrooms to go on invaluable trips to learn and have fun! Lunchables Lunch Combinations wants to help deserving kids across the country go on an inspiring, educational experience with the launch of the program, “Field Trips For All.”
Field Trips For All is the first effort from the Lunchables Team’s new initiative called Project Potential. Aimed at empowering kids with opportunities to help them reach their full potential, Project Potential will provide enriching experiences kids might otherwise not have.
Anyone 6 years old or older can nominate a deserving classroom by going to http://www.lunchables.com/potential/and submitting a nomination! From every nomination received, 50 classrooms will be selected to go on an inspiring, educational experience-- so cool!
Check out this funny video/commercial-- a classroom of 5th graders go on a field trip to a museum and are in for a surprise!
Do you have a deserving classroom that would love to go on a field trip? Go to http://www.lunchables.com/potential/ and submit your nomination! I would love to hear about your nominations-- leave a comment here about the classroom-- but be sure to nominate them on the contest website! 50 classrooms will win!
I haven't nominated a classroom yet,. but I would hope the winners of the contest were classrooms in underprivileged communities. Many times the poorest of schools get hit the hardest in tough economic times. I would also like to see the students take part in choosing a field trip that interests them and that combines educational qualities. Perhaps a trip that could foster ideas for their future or learn about the countries history!
You can help spread the word about the contest too! You can post about the contest on Facebook or even Twitter! I am sure your friends would all like to learn about this great opportunity!
