TruKid Review and Giveaway!

Jennifer Adams Bunkers was a mother of five with another on the way when she realized there were not many children's products on the market for her to choose from, and a lot of the stuff out there was chemical-filled and unhealthy, or smelled "yucky" according to her kids. So Jennifer set out to make products using only natural ingredients, and essential oils to make scents that children love. She created an easy system, made up of products accompanied with fun songs and poems, that kids would want to use themselves. The rest was TruKid history!

TruKid has evolved into a company with many products, including shampoos, conditioners, sunscreens, hair detanglers, and even lip balm! What makes TruKid different from the rest of the brands, is that it's made specifically for kids, all naturally. There are no chemicals in their products! For children with sensitive skin, sometimes harsh chemicals are hard to get around-- so many products are chemical laden! But TruKid makes a difference in the brand world by proving it's not so hard to make kid-friendly products that moms can trust and feel good about.

I was sent the TruKid Sunny Days SPF 30+ Natural Sunscreen. It went on easily and evenly. I liked that I could see the lotion when I was applying it on the girls. Instead of being a lotion that soaked right in, TruKid Sunny Days has zinc oxide in it that makes a white layer on the skin at first. Then as you rub in, it soaks in to the skin. The smell was appealing and fresh-- it smelled like real sweet oranges! I applied it to both kids-- my oldest daughter has very olive colored skin, while my youngest is fair as they come. Both did well with the TruKid, but I applied it more often on my youngest daughter-- Normally I put 100 spf on her, so I really didn't want her to get red! She ended up just fine and protected! And what is best-- it was without chemicals! The TruKid Sunny Days Sunscreen sells for $10.00 or $28.00 for three.

Some Scary Facts:
The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics Organization states, "Ingredients in any kind of product - from sunscreen and mascara to deodorant and baby shampoo - are sold to consumers with little to no restrictions and little to no requirement for safety testing." Essentially safety testing is performed only according to the honor system.
The European Union has banned over 1,100 chemicals from cosmetics sold in Europe. The United States has banned 9 and allows all 1,100+ chemicals banned by the E.U. to be used in our personal care products.
There are approximately 10,500 ingredients used in personal care products only, and 11% of those chemicals have been tested for health and safety. Don't feel safe yet.
When ingredients are tested for health and safety in the U.S they are only tested for immediate or short term afflictions such as rashes or swelling. They are not tested for long-term effects such as cancer, birth defects or learning disabilities, just to name a few.
Younger children absorb chemicals through the skin at a larger surface-to-volume ratio when compared with older children and adults. This means that for the same amount of skin covered with a chemical, the younger child may receive up to three times the dose received by an adult.

It has no vitamin A (which increases sun sensitivity and make tumors develop quicker-- yuck!), is BPA and phthalate-free and has NO SLS, paraben, 1-4 Dioxane or gluten! All that and the fact that it still protects you naturally is truly amazing!

The sunscreen I am using on my son works well but doesn't fade so his face and body looks pasty every time we go out. I have been looking for a replacement and TruKid is it!
